---Again, agreed...good stuff. A new thing for me is that I've begun taking lessons from a trumpet player. We've been working with the be-bop scale [for those who aren't familar with it, it's just the regular scale with a flat 7th [or sharp 6 :-) added, so in A it's: A,B,C#,D,E,F#,G,G#,A. As an exercise, I've been playing swing tunes like Satin Doll, playing the be-bop scale on the corresponding Dom 7th chord, so for the first two bars of Satin Doll, which are Dm and G7, I'll play around with the G be-bop scale, etc on thru the tune and in fact our friend the key of A shows up two bars later, as an A7 ...good practice for me. The trumpet player tells me that I need to really learn to "play the changes" and this is one way to start doing that, becoming more aware of what's going on harmonically in the tunes. He has also instucted me to take piano lessons as I don't play a chording instrument and don't read very well...kind of daunting since I'm 54 but I guess it's never too late to become a better musician.
