Although I've enjoyed playing for 10 years now (starting at age 55),
I pretty much consider myself a beginner too...something like what
Smokey alluded to. Very frustrated the first COUPLE of years. What
I came to understand, with a LOT of help from rooms like this (and
repeated contact with other harpers) is that EVERY vocation/
occupation has that small percentage at the top that outshines
everyone else...whether its playing harp, piano, or building a
rocketship. I endured a lengthy period of depression over my lack
of talent when it came to improvisation...specifically on the
Chromatic. Eventually, I accepted the fact that I have to work..and
work hard to achieve the level of playing that satisfies me...The
answer? Don't be too hard on yourself. Its supposed to be fun in
addition to the advantage of earning a few bucks here and there. I
was once a fair bassman in a U.S. Navy band...reading--no problem---
theory--no problem--directing--no problem..tongue blocking.......*%^$
%^#*#$(@#_$(%$&*%^ At least the harp is a lot lighter to carry around

other beginners out there?

Count me in.
Newbie with 8 month of harping with slow progress but loads of fun.
Here in Stockholm, Sweden we have some bluesjams and open mics
almost every
night of the week that you can go to listen and learn.
Not ready for the stage yet but I am working on it.
Cheers

Hi there,
I'm also a beginner with 2 months or so of harping. I'm loving to
squeeze
some harp time into my everyday life. I've been learning in a slow
but
steady pace and am hoping to become a decent player in the not so
far
future. Here in Brazil there are few harmonica enthusiasts that is
why i'm
very glad i found you guys.

So excited to have come to a place where others can relate to my
harp-related travails and joys! I've been playing harp for
about 2
months
now, and it's already been an exhilarating ride. Are there any
other
beginners out there?
We're all beginners. :)
I'd love to swap ideas/stories/frustrations with other
budding harp players. I recently graduated from college, and as
you can
imagine (given the sorry state of popular music) none of my
friends
share
my
love for blues or harmonica. So, I'm very glad to have found
you guys!
We have a contingent of girls too. :)
Cheers,
Danielle
