Re: [Harp-L] Harp-L] Toots

Thanx Bob,-) I'm Trying……

I agree with you about smo-joe and YOU sure ain't to shabby my friend.-)

So today I had a different experience in the studio…..Today I was trying to channel the Butterfield a bit for my new big band tribute to him and the Electric Flag.

I recorded "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" ala Butter's live double LP version…

I guess ideally doing it at an "analog" studio would help but I had good luck at this Digital studio with my last CD…..

I first used my Fender Blues Deluxe with a Shure 545 but the 1X12 Deluxe (Mic'ed with a room condenser mic and close up with a 57 on the amp) gave me too much 'break up' and distortion and I wanted a broader more open sound with some grit but not a full out distortion……

so I ended up using a 1970 Twin Reverb with my Ultimate 57 by Blowsmeaway…….we mixed the amp close up with an EV RE20 and also the room Condensor mic for ambience…..

Then because I was trying to "cut' over a 20 piece band we ran it thru the "Sonic Maximizer" to just brighten and lift it up in the mix…pretty happen with the outcome….

"Strive for Tone…."

Best,
Rob P

>>> One of my Biggest Challenges in the studio was actually a dumb Karaoke session! They wanted me to play on a few Billy Joel songs…no problem, I figured Piano Man some dumbed down chord diatonic licks…'piece of cake',-)….ahhhh but when I finished that they said, "Rob we have one more before you go"…it was "Leave a Tender Moment Alone"…..oh boy I wasn't getting off THAT easy!!!!!

The Original session had some sweet sounding Toots and at the time I hadn't a clue what mic it was…..for this session we used a Neumann 87 and I stood about 6 inchs back it was a large wood walled studio and he configured the patterns just so…..

>>> But Having a great engineer made all the difference…..here are the results….the original and my version….let me know if I got close,-) Why couldn't they just call Toots!!!…….session work like this can be frustrating but you use the tools you have and hope for the best……
