Re: [Harp-L] playing along
I'm there right now because I'm playing at a memorial for an old rock and
roller, including some Skynyrd songs. I'm approaching it by downloading
songs from Musicnotes.com and then doing my own tab for the melody. If you
get the downloads that include guitar, vocal and piano there are tons of
options. I like to disect the guitar solo and use the parts that work for
harp. Also, with songs like "Sweet Home Alabama" there is a riff that goes
3b-3-5-6-5-3-2-1 with some variations like 3b-3-5-6-5-4 that is repeated
through the whole song that you can play with the guitars and make it sound
like a natural part of the song. So, a combination of melody, riff and solo.

Subject: [Harp-L] playing along
So I have a question about how some of you folks approach playing along
with
songs that don't necessarily have a harp part in them. I'm in my shop
listening
to Lynyrd Skynyrd today and there are songs that would just be fun to play
along
with. So I'm curious about how others approach playing along with songs.
Do you
play the melody or prefer to play a background rhythm?
Chris
