Shoot me now--I happen to think that gear is better made and better sounding now than it's ever been, and vintage amps are generally 1) not tuned for harp, 2) in questionable condition, and 3) overpriced compared to recently manufactured alternatives.
If you've got a HarpGear 30, you've already got a very good modern amp. I think you're better off going with a Sonny Junior or any of its high-end competitors than searching for a vintage amp that may give you just as much pain as pleasure before you're done. One thing I know for sure--when you take a Sonny Junior, HarpGear, Meteor, etc. out of the box, it's going to sound damn good with harmonica from the first note. And it's going to be built to last.
Price for performance is better with the newer stuff made for harp. Believe me.
