Hi Tom...I did my Bassman with three coats of MINWAX PolyShades HONEY  
PINE SATIN...This product combines stain and polyurethane in 1 step,  
and is very easy to apply with a brush....I did not disassemble the  
amp...I used the 3M brand Scotch-Blue Painter's Tape to mask  
everything (including the grille cloth), and it worked great!  It is  
important for you to know that this product, and others like it, will  
not eliminate existing imperfections in the tweed...If you have  
lighter liquid rings on the top, they will still be lighter after one,  
two or three coats (I learned this the hard way)....Good luck with
