In my introductory message I mentioned the biker who told me, "It's good
to hear a *real* harmonica player!" which is the best compliment I've
ever gotten, whatever he meant; but I'll add this one, which may have
referred to my singing or my harp playing or both: a few months ago I
went to the jazz singers' open mike at Cleopatra's Needle in Manhattan,
and one of my allotted two songs was Big Joe Turner's "Roll 'Em Pete",
on which I played a harmonica break. Afterwards, a nice black lady in
the audience (the friend of another singer) told me, "You were good. I
was surprised." That /was/ a compliment, right?
