Re: [Harp-L] Which harp mic is most feedback resistant?....... OOH and wireless

Thanks Bill............Life has been busy...........Sorry to keep you wating

A sound tech saw I was having trouble with feedback during a soundcheck. The backline they gave me was a blues Devill. I traveled with my Astatic Velvet Voice with a CM in it, and my wireless.
Under normal sound levels I enjoyed warm tone and was able to be heared. When playing with Bobby though, the sound levels are quite a bit louder. His backline was TWO Twin Reverbs.
His rig when we work in the US consists of TWO Peavey SC 400............................(LOUD)......................... In either case the tech brought out the 604 and all the adapters needed........... I was
quite reluctant but kept an open mind and tried it anyway. I was so loud that ,for the first time in the several years that I had been playing with Bobby he yelled TURN THAT S#@T DOWN. I fell in love. Its nice to be able to not play on auto piolot As soon as I got back to the states I bought one. The mic has great bottom warm middle and I beleive rolls off a bit at the top (I'm not looking at the spec sheet) It is I beleive a dynamic mic like the 545.
I have also used it with out a line matching transformer streight into the amp.
My signal path is:
604................. into a Senheiser EW 100 guitar wireless..........................into a Line-6 POD pro XT...............................Into a Sabine FBX 2400 (Feedback Exterminator)
And from there into either the PA or a Mackie SRM 450 (sometimes two)
I brought a Line-6 short board to controll the volume with a foot switch or you can use a simple foot controlled volume pedal.
I like using a right angle XLR out of the mic............ you can see that in the video below. I havent tried yet but I think I can fit a volume pot in a right angle XLR.
Greg ............................(or any of you other techno cats out there)..................................is there a volume pot small enough to fit in a right angle plug.

WIRELESSES......I would say............. as the saying goes you get what you pay for. The Senheiser EW100 is in the 3-400 dolar range. It is a guitar wireless so there is a short cord but that is all I have ever used so it doesn't bother me. If you can be patient waite save your $$$$. There is other companies with compareable products.
until you can get something desent......... You don't have to spend a gagillion dollars but simply DONT BUY JUNK <<<<<(I sound like my Mother)

I attached some video below where the mic is being used..............................Thanks man................................................Dane Paul

"Senheiser 604" "I'd like to know what it is you like about them."

Dane only pops in here occasionally so I'll provide a tentative answer until he sees this and can answer for himself.

From what I remember Dane saying to me, he likes this mic because it's very compact (fits in the hand easily) and sounds great with his rig. He plays wireless (I believe using a Sennheiser unit) into a POG. Dane is a fantastic blues player but isn't limited to that, he plays a lot of funk and jazzy lines. He's got a very melodic style and can do the fast runs that are akin to Pat Ramsey, Jason Ricci, and <gasp> John Popper.
> But then I've heard him play some downright nasty blues and many other
styles too, so I'd say a key feature if that the mic is versatile, has a great low-end (being essentially a drum mic) and sounds good. Right - no volume control but I'm sure he regulates that from his wireless belt pack.

If you're ever in DC when Bobby Parker is playing (Madam's Organ last Saturday of each month?) stop in and see the amazing show, Dane is Bobby's band leader and holds the harp chair. It's a great band, Bobby's legendary and he's got top notch guys all around. He's also shown quite a bit on the "Carlos Santana Presents: Blues at Montreux 2004" DVD playing with Bobby, Carlos Santana, and others. Great DVD.
