[Harp-L] Let me pick the key

My harp mentor Richard once told, that most of the time they tell you the wrong harp key to play.
Since I'm still leaning, Richard will give me advice on which key to use and most of the time its different from what the guitarist says.

If your good like Richard then yes I agree with the statement.
If your like me, learn to hear the sound of each of your harps and hopefully I will learn.

I played at open mic last night, and since it was a surprise Birthday party ( my night ) I played almost all night long.
Richard is always there to guide me along.
Last night he told me I don't need him anymore, that I have progress to the point that I don't need his guidance.
I told Richard that I will always need him.. I have way too much to learn. I found him here on Harp L or he found me.
and we have been good friends.

Harp L has been a great place to learn, and meet so many great people.

I hate it when a guitarist tells me which harp to use.

me too. when they're trying to be helpful, i explain that it messes me up, since i might use a number of different harp keys depending on the song. they usually get it. i had another harp player do that, too. but he was just being a condescending jerk.

I say to them it's
like me telling them which string to play on.

that's a great line. i'll remember that.
