Nonsense.  I've got a Super Reverb (Reissue).  In either channel you  
can turn all the tone controls down to "1" plug in and play and you  
get a decent level of sound.  Obviously, the volume control can't be  
turned down when you do it, but all the tone controls certainly can.   
Don't know about a Bassman, though.  And i don't know about silver  
face Supers that have a master volume control.
