RE: [Harp-L] RE: Paul Butterfield(answering to Micholas....)

I am not a big fan of Butterfield's stuff. To me, he seemed like a really
busy player and much didn't sound correct. It seemed like he would use blow
notes in place of bent draws to allow for fast play and to simplfy breathing
patterns even if it wasn't right. In fact, when I started playing the
instrument, I would turn the station when he came on to hopefully avoid
getting sucked in to playing what to my ear, was wrong. I surely don't want
to offened anyone who felt his playing and again this is just my take on it.

Regards,

Hey Nicholas,as you was talking about Butters...... i dont know what records
you was hearing, but sometimes happen that as an artist that have a long
career and make it to the mainstream as Paul did, some records are kind of
strange(?),so maybe you didnt hear the best of him...let me recomend you
some of his things.....

First of all his Live album at Fillmore..........it got nothing of chinese
,white or black crap, its just a knockout!

Then he got anotherone called"Sometimes i feel like smiling",great, real
funky.....and then you can check his records with Better Days......after
hearing that, make your opinion, and if you want, call it crap, but at least
call it "integrated crap"cause as you may not know it was said that it was
the first "integrated"bands.....

When i was your age i also was talking shit all the time ,drinking lot of
booze, smoking lot of dubbies, and many more.....well, i regret many things
that i was saying and thinking...like for instance that the genious Steavi
Wonder was corny........

Listen to Butters in "Fathers and sons"with Muddy waters!Theres also a great
song that Butter played called "I pity the fool"dont miss that one....

For me Butterfield is one of the best harmonica players in history..........

And sorry ,but age can be an excuse with 15...but with 22 you are supposed
to be a man already.............

amp to him. We checked out his cool collection of mics (mostly modded
Turners) and he pulled out a Ultimate 57 that he had gotten from Greg
Heumann. I've played through 57s before in an "acoustic harp" kind of
environment, but didn't think I dig it too much for playing straight through
an amp. Well................I was wrong. I liked it a lot ! I ordered one
about 2 weeks later after sending one of my own 57s to him. It's a very cool
design with the volume control on the 57. I have found it to be real fat and
very feedback resistant especially with a big amp with 40 or more watts. For
smaller amps like my 14 watt Harvard or 55 Champ or Bogen amps I still dig
my JT30s (ceramic and crystal) and T3 with a hot CM element.
