[Harp-L] How Many Working Harmonicas Do You Have?
I may have the smallest collection of working harps of any professional or
highly dedicated player on this list. This is not in any way a badge of
honor, I just tend to stick with diatonics in the most common tuning. When
I buy a harp that really feels good I use it for years and years and it
gets better and better. When I buy one I don't like I replace it pretty
quickly, so for many years have had a set of 12 harps that I like. I also
have a Huang chromatic that I use when asked. I also keep backups of the
harps I use the most, the obvious keys. So I maybe have 18 working harps
all in.
I had some harps in off-the-shelf minor keys, but they're long gone. I
ordered an XB-40 a couple of years ago, but the mail-order company was so
screwed up that I finally cancelled the order, and then discovered I did
not want one anymore.
One of the many things I dig about our discussion is people talking about
harps I do not own or play. I love to hear the new sounds and ideas when
harplers put them up on the web for us to dig.
So I put this out for the group if anyone's interested: how many working
harps do you own, and what varieties are they?
