That's a common mistake by amateur video and audio recording folks.  As far
as I know the audio you got is the audio you get.  You can always amplify a
great quality signal but you can't un-amplify an over-level recorded signal.
GIGO.

I always use headphones and listen while recording - or at least hang them
around my neck on my shoulders and regularly check the sound quality while
mixing for the house.
