Amazing how a little bit of knowledge about an instrument, chromatic
harmonica or piano, can be dangerous. Stevie does play in flat keys
but not to release the button for embellishment, but to bring the
button back in for embellishment.
But he does the same thing in sharp keys on notes that have the
button. None of this has anything to do with his harmonica sound
which comes more from his type of bend vibrato. Let's not mention
his phrasing and rhythmic feel. If Stevie played in C Major, he
would still sound like Stevie!
But now that the true secret to his sound has been revealed, I expect
100 Stevie clones, just like the Little Walter clones. Not so easy,
the chromatic, is it.
Harmonically yours,
Robert Bonfiglio
