Hi all,Japanese (now living in the UK) chromatic player, Shima Kobayashi, joins me on episode 124.
Shima won the Hohner World Harmonica Championship in 1995, playing the Spivakovsky Harmonica Concerto. This led to a bursary from the Japanese government to spend a year in the UK studying with the legendary Tommy Reilly. As Tommy's only student at the time, Shima received a unique insight from one of the greatest chromatic players of all time.
She went on to release two albums in Japan before moving to the UK permanently, and after a sabbatical from the harmonica she returned with vigour to teach and perform with orchestras, in duos and ensembles, both in the UK and Japan.
