I think you are looking for a simple explanation of how music works -
scales are merely note choices - different scales suggest different choices available to the musician/composer. All scales are fair game in most situations - some sound better than others. Some note choices within the scale sound better than others from within that scale as well - everything depends on how the scales are applied to the music.
People will play from the blues scale, from the pentatonic scale, from the major scale, from the minor scale - no one has to just choose one and only one scale from which to play.
I suggest you get on a path to begin to understand music theory and then all your questions will be answered - it does take time, so commit to the time necessary. You will become a much better musician.

Subject: [Harp-L] pentatonic SCALE-2ND POSITION
I might be having a brain cramp, but the same pentatonic scale that we play in 1st position, which in a key of C is C/D/E/G/A ( 4/4D/5/6/6D), can also be played in 2nd position on a key of F- as 2D/3D"/3D/4D/5...
the question is... I should say I play a lot of first position so I am not hugely familiar with my scales in 2nd position, but do most people play this scale along with the "blues scale"... the blues scale is quite different than this, but would you play both scales???
does the pentatonic scale sound correct or does it sound off??
does this make sense???
thanks
Ian
