[Harp-L] polishing reed bases?

I can't see thinning the reed base increasing its life expectancy. I would
expect the reverse to be true.

However if someone has found that a polishing a reed causes it to last
longer, my first guess would be that this is akin to "hot rodders" polishing
highly stressed components such as con rods in their engines to eliminate
stress raisers caused by surface defects which could lead to the start of
fatigue cracks in the metal.
