I'm on board with Michael's final point--especially after re-reading Randy's original post. Where's your contribution to the blues harp canon? Why aren't YOU the Maceo Parker of the harmonica? I find it questionable that you would hold others in this harp community to a standard that you have not achieved.>>

I don't see why one must be qualified based on Noah's or Michael's insistence on put up or shut up or why aren't you the Maceo Parker of harmonica.

That is a silly requirement. If held true, no one but current recording artists would be allowed to offer opinions.

His post doesn't read as if he is holding others to any standard - just his thoughts on the subject. Perhaps those most angry with Randy are those with the least internal confidence in their creativity?

I'm sorry that so many seem to attack Randy for his view. He has paid his dues, recorded and released probably one of the first smooth jazz harmonica CD's (which did include a bit of blues diatonic within this genre) and received no comments from this list. As a matter of fact, this list has always dissed Randy (IMO) whenever he offered input.

However, the discussion he initiated is one of the most refreshing "L" threads in a very long time.

I enjoy the responsible comments and find the "attacks" to say more about that poster than about Randy.
