Re: [Harp-L] "Train Time" tab?
Train Time
Bu dup, buhhh, de bud up buhhh, de bud up buhhh, de bud up buhhhh, de bud
up,,,
(oh, no, that was "Spoonful",,)
Bu dup,, bu dup,, bu dup,, bu dup,, bu dup,, bu dup,, bu dup,,
(That's the one)
I've listened to that many times, had the album when it came out. Jack
Bruce's playing, especially the more rhythmically challenging pieces like
"Train Time" were evasive, since it involved a lot of "diaphragmatic
pulsations" (I call them), and I just didn't have the gut strength at that
point. Later, yeah. : *
Work, work, work = Results, results, results
It all seems so "rhythmically instinctive" to Bruce to play in that style,
as his typical modus operandi involves expending a lot of energy onstage,
impressing the sheetzola out of teenaged me, when I first heard it.
I can hardly imagine anyone but the most technically-minded (seems to be
quite a few of those around here) being able, or interested for that matter,
in reducing that pulse of life named Jack Bruce to mere tablature. It all
seemed so frantic, spastic, impulsive/intuitive as to evade facile
description.
(I exaggerate. Where there's a will, there's a way. Anyway, written
recordings of musical pieces are, for the most part, merely a guideline, not
fully able to convey the moment-to-moment subtleties of feeling and
sensitivities which could never be captured in such a simple and somewhat
limited, symbolic format.)
Hmm,,I'm beginning to sound like a "rootist", or some other sort of musical
snobbery. Hmm,,
I would have imagined at the time that he had just gone backstage and had a
couple of tokes on some funny cigarette. I'm still wondering about that
today,,
But I'm certain that taking things apart, piece by piece, is often helpful.
For instance, just practicing the opening is great for the lungs, the
diaphragm, and that six-pack you always wanted,,haha.
Good luck finding those magic tabs, the ones that give life to the music and
flesh out the artist behind it all.
Robert, master of saying not much at all in so many words,,lol
