I am appreciative to all whom answered. I hate to admit it, but even though I am old and have played a long time, I STILL wasn't really sure. How embarrassing. 
I am (basically) a side man. Sometimes I have my own mike and sometimes I am under the 'general' sound inputs as part of a grouping. Sometimes I solo. So I 
was innocently curious. I wasn't trying to hijack the thread or anything. I knew I could count on you gals & guys.
