I don't know anyone who gets more out of a few notes on the low end of the harp than Howlin' Wolf, and it's well worth picking up a collection of his recordings to see how he makes it work. In his case it's not about riffs, it's about big tone and simple rhythms that groove hard--a combination that says "I mean it."
