Thanks to everyone for the very helpful comments about how to avoid dry lips while playing harmonica. In particular, the use of 5w-20 motor oil is brilliant, as I live at the 62nd parallel and when I'm playing an outdoor gig at 40 below in a strong wind, the lighter-weight (5w) oil will be perfect.
