What a coincidence! I was just given a few boxes of old harmonica stuff and therein were two program booklets. The first, SPAH-West IV Harmonica Convention in Anaheim, Calif., May 26-28, 1988 and the second, SPAH-West V Festival of Harmonicas in San Jose, Calif., May 24-27, 1989. One could assume that there were three prior ones as well in California There was a fairly large group of players in the area at the time. Ray Tankersley, Judy and Al Smith, Tom Stryker, Joe Mass and others and clubs, who could make conventions happen. And believe it or not, there was one diatonic seminar each year. Pretty heavy on the chromatic and trios.
