How many folks are playing Sub30s or X-Reeds? I am right into them just now.
Obviously the work Brendan Power has done with the Sub30 was necessary to
make Suzuki's innovation really useful, but there was one thing about the
note set-up I just haven't been able to adapt to. That is the draw bend on
hole 7, taking (let's talk 'C' harp) the B down to a Bb.
I wanted the blown C to go to Bb, just like hole 10, and like holes 1, 4, 7
and 10 on an XB40. Also, effectively, like the hole 6 overblow on a
conventional harp. On my Sub30s and X-Reeds, I have the holes 1 and 4 blow
bending a tone (a simple adjustment) and I am now pleased to announce that
I now have a whole tone blow bend on hole 7 as well.
It involved the removal of all three reeds form hole 7, and swapping them
around (including converting the blow reed on the bottom plate to a draw
reed) so that the reed arrangement for that hole was the same as for holes
1-6.
It's probable that nobody else is interested in this, and I don't blame
them. However, it's quite an achievement for your's truly,
RD
