[Harp-L] Teaching techniques ... was Re: Standard

What I understood in Warren's post was framed by my own personal experience. It is not that being told  about a teacher's exact technique that is distracting to me at all- it is when I perceive the messenger covertly or overtly is affirming their superiority and inferring their brilliance. I realize this is very subjective and reflective.
The teaching method that inspires me includes a teacher that is so filled with joy at sharing their knowledge that I would not question their method. Some use more pressure to vibrate the reeds than is necessary for the excitement that creates, some inhale and exhale very softly. One is more forceful- one is more subtle.
I am very happy for the teachers of the world that offer different ways for different students according to their constitution.

  'being
told exactly how to do something that is very individual is a formula for
frustration and tension.'

I have not found this to be true in all my years of teaching technique.

It depends on how well the technique is explained.

Probably true is a self fulfilling belief from a teacher when he believes the above statement. Therefore, that teacher will develop a different approach.

every subtle movement of the mouth tongue and throat is more dramatic with
an airtight heavy fleshy seal over a single hole. each breath can gently
explore the turf for desired results. over thinking impedes progress. being
told exactly how to do something that is very individual is a formula for
frustration and tension. lead the horses to the water and encourage
figuring out how to drink with broad mental concepts. it is when firing on
6 or 7 cylinders that I like to step in and fine tune with my methodology.
