Did they put the harmonica into the monitors?  LOTS of times I find that the sound man either doesn't, or is so worried about feedback, it is insanely low.  I'll tell you what, though, when I sat in with John Popper and Blues Traveler, they gave me my own monitor with my own mix - and it was perfect.  In fact, it was easier to hear myself than JP and his stack of amps.  I played a Beta 57a cupped with no sound check...you can tell that band is ran by a harp player, lol!

It helps if you chat with the sound person first and take a few seconds to add it to the monitors.  If you are cupping a mic, there shouldn't be as much bleed as on a stand, so less feedback if you are careful.
