In regard to the Symphonium's tuning, museums have become very conservative towards issues of restoration.  Thus altering the reeds to tune them is not going to happen (even adding bluetac would probably be out, so forget about filing or scraping).  

To the extreme end, this ideology would rather take measurements and build recreations of old instruments than try and repair the original into working order.  As someone whose career is based on maintaining historic instruments for weekly usage, while I sympathize I can't say I agree with this position outside of very few circumstances.  Musical instruments are not just archeological artifacts, IMO.
