Re: Subject: Re: [Harp-L] Re: twin harmonica system

Elizabeth,
Iâm truly sorry that you've taken such offence at my pointing out that Mr. Powers' latest is exorbitantly priced. But, Why spend so much time on a of couple of ânegativeâ comments? We hear negative and positive comments all the time on Harp L. Whatâs your angle in this small conversation between Mr. Hunter and me? Does it bother you that I can achieve the same or better with a couple of rubber bands, bolts, tape, blue tac or whatever. By the way what do think Brendanâs is doing in his latest. Gee - I wonder where he ever got that full step idea?
By the way the bolts have virtually nothing to do with my invention. My invention is skipping a whole step/tone and playing what no one else ever has on the diatonic harmonica. Thank for you interest and concern for Mr. Hunterâs feelings and Brendanâs image. You sound like a very kind women.

Mr. Price: Brendan has already mentioned first thatÂthe Twin Harmonica items he showed in the video are PROTOtypes--and further that there are all sorts of possibilities available as he progresses with this brilliant and innovative idea, i.e. doing precisely whatÂRichard Hunter asks: allowing for switching out of other chromatics. ÂThis is the second negative comment you've made about the cost....the first along the lines of 'taking a second mortgage on one's home' or asking if Brendan would help 'finance' the costs. As Richard and others point out, spending the time, energy, effort andÂmoney involved in developing new ideas and inventions (not to mention the cost of the CAD/milling machines), needs to be recouped by the inventor or he's apt to go broke long before bringing these instruments to market.ÂI don't recall Brendan claiming buying his system will 'makeÂanyone a better player' as youÂseem to imply. Rather, it removes distracting obstacles from the path of one striving to be aÂbetter player.ÂShouldn't that be the aim of all musical innovations? ÂÂThe costs of custom harps are by comparison also extremely expensive given that they too use existing harmonica combs/bodies. I haven't read many complaints from theirÂpurchasers.ÂÂWhile I realize you consider yourÂidea of bolting two harps together also 'innovative'...so many others have previously either stacked harps together (Jia-Yi He is one example) or created devices to hold them togetherÂto play in conjunction with each other (someone on Slidemeister recently posted a photo of such a wooden clamping system he built some time ago). Marv Monroe of Buckeye and SPAHÂplays two XB-40's (C&C#) in a specially modified harp holder while playing guitar to lead play-alongs at SPAH for mostly chromatic players. He's been doing this for umpteen years (as long as I've been attending SPAH) but could easily change them to any other key if he chose.ÂÂI'm sorry ifÂothers haven't taken to your bolting system--but you needn'tÂthen shoot arrows at Brendan who IS and hasÂlong-since been someone who takes risks to create innovative products for harmonica players. It purely smacks of sour grapes and will likely result in turning awayÂsome who might well have been originally interested in your idea. If you see his invention as somehow infringing on yours, it doesn't... remotely.ÂBrendan's single mouthpiece for two separate chromatics--and the locking system for the buttons is completely unusual andÂremoves anyÂ'delay' without excessive strain by the player as far as I've seen and heard from his demonstration.ÂElizabethÂ"Message: 13

Richard, "some things don't come cheap". Deal with it! I hope you're not trying to cheat your way into a better deal at Mr. Powers' expense. I may order two or three... just think how good I'll finally be!

Brendan,

Wil you offer this system in harness-only form, i.e. Will a buyer have the option to purchase the harness only and attach any instruments that the buyer already owns?

Thanks, richard hunter
