Bass and chord harp are not just for old-time harmonica bands!
As the bands inspired by the Harmonicats and Harmonica Rascals fade into history, the bass and chord still have a lot to offer. The Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Who all used bass and chord harmonicas on their records during the 1960s. Jason Ricci used them on his Rocket No. 9 CD as well.
If you're coming to the 2014 SPAH convention in St. Louis, why not seek out some of the best chord and bass players to be found, and work up a number or two? I think you'll find that it's a gas to play with them!
It doesn't matter whether you play diatonic or chromatic, or what style of music you play. Chord and bass harmonicas can adda unique dimension to your playing and your arrangements. Whether you're a featured concert performer, planning to strut your stuff at an open mic, or just jam in the hallways or at one of the organized evening jams, you'll find that playing with chord and bass is a special joy that all too few younger players have experienced.
Kudos to Paul Davies for coming up with this idea that fuses the dual SPAH missions of preservation and advancement!

I have enjoyed performing with Danny Wilson and Frank Warner on bass, and Bud Boblink on chord harmonica at several SPAH Conventions. So, yes, I endorse this idea.
