Re: [Harp-L] Re. Useage of Looping Gear
Arthur,
While my personal setup isn't "optimal", here is the basic idea for using
Loopy HD on an iOS device...and Loopy HD has a lot more firepower than the
original.
I run a mic into my regular gear...any pedals, preamps, etc.
>From there, I connect a 1/4" out to iRig.
iRig plugs into the 1/8" stereo input of my iPad 2.
I then plug a 1/8" to stereo 1/4" into iRig...so iRig is both the input to
the iPad and the output.
I plug the left (mono) 1/4" into whatever...amp, PA, desktop mixer...you
could go stereo too.
Loopy on the iPad looks like this: http://youtu.be/0iMFZXvCsZQ
You have a couple options for controlling the looper. You can use your
finger and the touchscreen, which, IMO, is problematic in that it doesn't
always work correctly. Your other option is to use a Midi Controller.

This would let you assign the controller to control any of the app's
functions. The one talked about most on the Loopy HD forum is the
Behringer one. If you really wanted to do things right, you'd use a better
unit than the iRig. There are other, more expensive, devices used the same
way (or with the 30 pin connector). They evidently sound better and have
less noise.
AFAIK, you can use any iOS device. I just happen to only have an iPad. If
you aren't doing live looping at a gig, you can take the time to adjust
Loopy HD to count in the loops, etc., so you don't have to worry so much
about timing with the touchscreen. IMO, this takes a lot of thought and
preplanning live.
