I did a local pub gig on Friday with my friend Paul Smith, who has a very
nifty setup using Loopy on his iPhone 5, plus a Korg Pandora and guitar
footswitch connected to the iPhone via Bluetooth. So tidy and small, but
very powerful!
The capability of multi-track iPhone loopers like Loopy and TC Helicon’s
VoiceJam is truly amazing. They are so much more intuitive and flexible
(especially in terms of undo and selecting different tracks) than the
hardware loopers, even the more sophisticated ones like the RC50, Boomerang
and VoiceLive Touch.
I use the VLT and am happy with it, because it has lots of great effects for
vocals and harp in addition to its multi-track looper, but when I compared
its looping abilities to Paul’s iPhone setup it falls short on a number of
counts. I’m pretty sure I’ll be going in that direction when I upgrade J
