Re: [Harp-L] Seydel Session Steel: a love that lasts?
I bought a set of the Session Steel from Greg Jones a couple of years ago.
Since then I only have had one reed replaced which was from doing a 10 blow
bend. Greg replaced it for free. I like not haveing to have reeds replaced
due to failure. Greg did it for free as part of his warranty. I am not a
hard player and have learned to let the amp control the volume but when
playing special 20's I would still break reeds or get them out of tune. I
like special 20's but I play the session steel now due to their lasting much
longer. The only ting I do is drop them in an ultra sonic cleaner with a
couple of denture tablets to clean them every few months. I play 60-80 gigs
a year. Thanks to Greg for letting me know about these harps.

Subject: [Harp-L] Seydel Session Steel: a love that lasts?
"Up to five times longer playing life compared to models with brass reeds",
sayeth Seydel of the Session Steel. At about twice the price.
So -- should be a good deal. But it´s a strong claim, and "up to" can mean it
has 1. 001 "longer playing life compared to" etc.
I wonder, have any of you heavy hitters, hard players, harmonica tormentors
any experience that corroborates this claim of longevity?
They have been on the market for a number of years now and as I´m very tight
with my money and always looking for a good deal when it comes to a
harmonica that lasts (never mind how they sound: as they say here on Harp-l,
"it´s all in the player" anyhow!) it would be interesting to hear some
experiences based on just this particular aspect of the instrument.
Cheers
