Re: [Harp-L] mic. advice

Probably plenty of used ones out there by now, this has been going on for a few years now. Buy from people you trust. I have a 58 I could sell that I promise to be the real deal from about 1990, used a couple of times, no dents. Might have an original box.

That makes sense. Are the used one more likely to be genuine?

These are represented as new SM57's and SM58's, but they are cheap Chinese knock-offs. There are a couple videos on YouTube that show you how to identify the fakes.

A counterfeit SM57? I am in the market for a used SM57, and have made several unsuccessful bids on EBay. Maybe I'm just naive, but it never occurred to me that a sm57 might be counterfeit. Why would someone go to the trouble of making another mic look like a Shure when the the Shure sells used for only around $50 on EBay. How does one produce a counterfeit sm57 anyway?

Be careful where you buy. There are so many counterfit SM58's and SM57's for sale on the Internet. Buy from a trusted source like Greg Heumann, Ron Hobdy, etc. Don't shop FleaBay.

Hi. could subscribers recommend a microphone suitable for use with a group of musicians who play a variety of
musical styles including a few irish tunes some country style songs and a few early 70's rock style tunes,
I have a shure 545 that I use for blues but I am looking for a mic. that I can put in a stand and play may be 2"-3"
away from it I want the harp to sound like it should just as an amplified sound not distort ed like it does with Blues.

thanking you in advance--------- John
