Hi Winslow,

 

I already tried that a few years ago. It was OK in the middle octaves but rubbish on the low and high range. The chambers are too big, I think.

 

Iâve also made octave chromatics and a chord harmonica out of the SCT. They were more successful

As pointed out already, you can already bend all the notes on the chromatic using single-reed bends.

 

However, the Suzuki SCT128 could be potentially adapted for full four-reed bending (i.e., responder reed bending for all blow and draw notes). It would mean co-opting the tremolo reeds as enabler reeds.

 

In the SCT-128, two banks of reeds are mounted one *behind* the other in the same air channel, one providing the main note and the other supplying the tremolo note tunded slightly higher. 

 

You could co-opt the tremolo reeds as enabler reeds. They'd have to be de-valved (creating leakage that might be problematic) and tuned down in pitch (laborious but feasible).

 

If you're willing to go to the expense of acquiring and converting an SCT-128, and then dealing with the various problems that come up, it's do-able.

 

Or maybe a lightbulb will go on at Suzuki (Brendan? Tachi? Yu?)

 I'm also interested in being able to bend blow notes by now having a third "enabler" reed in each chromatic chamber - as is available on the diatonic SUB30.  Do you guys think this is possible?  I guess the main concern is probably if there is enough space or not per chamber on upper and lower reed plates (perhaps also air loss).
