At age ten, I had discarded the diatonic that my grandfather gave me when I learned to play single notes and found that a bunch of them were missing. As a teenager, I discovered the chromatic....and that did it. Many years later, Bonfiglio playing classical music on Charles Kuralt's "Sunday Morning" TV program renewed my enthusiasm.
