Re: [Harp-L] Battery Powered Amp - need recommendation

"50-60 watts is quite a meaty amp, and you are talking car battery type power for that size. Do you really need that?"

I have yet to see a battery powered amp that cranks out that much wattage. If you want something good for harp and portable that's THAT strong, you'd prolly be better off getting a rechargeable Duracell power supply and getting a solid state modelling amp. Tubes will drain it faster and the voltage inconsistency could cause problems for you.

"I haven't tried it yet , but for a slightly smaller amp, try the new Yamaha THR10 - 10W.  It is intended to be a battery powered modelling amp "to sound like a miked-up cabinet through a PA"."

This I would recommend as well. Heck, I'd buy one simply for the looks! Those need a line out or external speaker jack to use them in a bigger gig, and I hope Yamaha picks up on that.

"I'm not sure of the watts, but a PigNose Hog 20 is great with two big batteries in it and should be loud enough for duo gigs."

True. But if he really is wanting more power, then he'd be better off with the Hog 30.
