I have planned for years to put 3 harp students on stage as the "Tone
Benders" and play as ensemble, leading off with Low Rider in harmony,
like a
horn section.
anyone pulled off an event like this?
-----
Coupla years ao, I went up to the Ocala Forest to visit another harp-playing
friend of 40 plus years. While there we decided to go over to the Tampa Bay
area, actually Sunset Beach where another long-time friend and harmonica
player lives.
So, Sky and I are visiting Tedlee and Tedlee says he knows where some
friends are gigging in Tampa. We go there with a short kit and our bullet
mics and whan we walk in, the band leader says "Here's my harp player now!"
And Tedlee says, pointing to me, "Well, here's the guy who taught me." And
I say, pointing to Sky, "Well here's the guy who taught me!" and we started
playing a 12-bar blues in E. We took turns, never stepping on each other
and finished the number with harmonies. It was really, a once in a lifetime
jam. Perfect!
After we sat back down, the owner of the place came over and said that was
the best harmonica playing he had ever heard and wanted to know if we were
coming back tomorrow night. Ha! Naw, I had to take Sky back to Altoona,
and then get myself back to Ft. Lauderdale. But it sure was a very special
three-harp jam. For sure!
If I lived closer, I'd be doing that stuff more often.
