Thanks for the information about the Red Dot mic.

The valves of the chromatic harp would present a problem with the current
ELX design. However if the photodiodes could be mounted in the comb (in
the plane between upper and lower channels) and still have the sensitivity
of those mounted on the covers then perhaps a valved version would be
possible.

Also, what about an unvalved version for a chromatic harp? Any volume
loss due to air leakage could be recovered in the amplification. However,
might the reed response suffer some without the valves?
