nice to have a good resource on mics -
just to be clear, there are some good mic sellers on eBay too - a couple of
guys I have bought from there are first rate sellers, and their mics are
primo - exactly as presented and worth the bucks. and yes, you do have to
watch out for hucksters there and elsewhere. I recently was all set to go
look at a couple of mics on our local craigslist, which were listed as
vintage JT-30's with vintage Shure CM elements. both had been custom painted
by someone who is good at that kind of work and looked good in pics. when
the guy realized I knew more than the average bear about harp mics, he
texted me - not called - to say they both had Astatic crystals...which one
did I want? that and a couple more clues made me realize he was selling
custom painted Hohner Roadhouse mics for $250. what a joke. when I looked
for the ad again that same day, it was gone. most harpers are the best folks
around - trustworthy souls who do the right thing. there are anomalies, it
appears.
