I think you're right. But the treatment, I think, is not wholly
undeserved because of the differences between how most of us
learned how to play the harp vs. how most people learn to play the
so called "legitimate" instruments. A variation on a old joke comes
to mind: "How do you get a harmonica player to turn down his/her
amp? Put sheet music in front of him/her. Most of us don't read,
don't know a whole lot about theory, and therefore do not speak music.

Big Bob, you just nailed it. I had been playing with a girl sax
player the last couple weeks. She sounds a lot like Cannonball
Adderley. She's good.
So t'other night, she wants to do a tune and the piano player isn't
sure of it. She puts a chart on his music rack. So I stand alongside
the piano
and read the music. I'm not a sight reader, but was able to follow it
well enough to understand the head and follow the chords.
During the break, she tells me she has worked with literally dozens
of harmonica players and I was the first one that was (in her words)
"Worth a sh*d".
Tom Albanese nailed, and so did YOU. And I'm with Warren B. on this
whole thing. Who cares if these schlameales don't respect harmonica.
They ain't paying my bills, and I don't owe them crabs. lolol
