I think you're right. But the treatment, I think, is not wholly undeserved because of the differences between how most of us learned how to play the harp vs. how most people learn to play the so called "legitimate" instruments. A variation on a old joke comes to mind: "How do you get a harmonica player to turn down his/her amp? Put sheet music in front of him/her. Most of us don't read, don't know a whole lot about theory, and therefore do not speak music.
