[Harp-L] Breaking-in

Both Sissy Jones and David Payne allude to breaking-in harmonica reeds in the current issue of Harmonica Happenings.

I cannot find any references in the metallurgical literature that indicate that a short period of gentle cycling can increase the fatigue-resistance of copper alloy.

I don't think that breaking-in works. 

My questions to David and Sissy are:

Q.  How do you know?

Q. Can you refer me to authoritative, supporting information in the metallurgical literature?
