Re: [Harp-L] Re: Why Charlie's Cruncher was backwards, and other stuff
On a more positive note:
Once approached Charlie at gig at the saloon in San Francisco.
Being a long time fan, I was reluctant to say anything (respecting his space).
I told him I was taking a trip to Europe. Back pack style.
He told me about a club in Copenhagen, where I should go and mention his name.
The guy did not know me, owe me anything.
Just because he knew I played at this club before, he gave me this bit of information.
When I walked into this club in Copenhagen, the band got all excited about a harp player from the U. S.
being in the house.
You see, Charlie had been here and laid the groundwork.
They immediately got me on stage, and that band played some East Bay Funk.
How do you get the Oakland Stroke in a place like this?
Charlie had been there.
I am nobody...really, but for one night I got to play with a great band in a magical place.
I still don't know the guy but have played with many of his band members over the years.
Charlie hangs with the coolest cats I have ever met.
Thanks Charlie.
You do what you do. You never sound like anybody else.
In my mind, you've paid your dues...and you are a national treasure.
If Ms. Lauper calls, not too many of us would have said no to the gig...keep opening doors.
