It's not a rip-off -- teachers aren't doing it to make excessive profit.

For a visiting teacher, there's a higher ratio of travel time to teaching time.

And whether you're travelling or the students come to you, if you're teaching each student for half the time, you need twice the number of students to teach the same number of hours.  That ain't gonna happen.

30 minute lessons are simply by nature more expensive per minute than longer lessons.  If you want 1 hour lessons, find a teacher that does them.

Individual choice -- that's how the market works.
