I bought a SJ 410 several years ago, and have loved it as an amp for blues. Recently I have been using it on my jazz gig, and I really like the way it sounds. What I do is this: set the bass at 4, the treble at 6, the mids at 3 [this varies a tad, but you get the idea...and Gary himself suggested these settings.]
Then I use an sm-57, but rather than cup it, I put it in a mic stand and run into a Dan-Echo digital delay then on into the amp. I crank the amp up, even though we play at a very low volume; I do this so that I can stand back a fair distance away from the mic.
I play 75% chromatic, 25% diatonic on this gig.
Really like the way this sounds.
WVa Bob
