......does chromatic repair work. You may not know of him
because he isn't on the internet. You may have met him at
SPAH where he leads repair seminars.
Every chromatic player should learn to replace valves.
Every players should learn to clear obstructions from reeds.
Most players should learn to correct reed misalignment.
(The above will handle 80% of your problems.)
Serious players should learn to tune and gap reeds.
(Now you can handle 95% of your problems.)
Players with good dexterity and determination can (with
practice) learn to replace reeds.
When you have a flat, fatigued reed, you must replace it,
replace the reedplate, or replace the harmonica. This is
where most players need the help of a technician. Paying
for a reed replacement should still be much cheaper than
paying for a new chromatic harmonica.

Subject: [Harp-L] Chromatic harmonica repairs and
maintainence
Anyone who plays chrom needs to be able to do simple
things to setup and
maintain their instrument.
When the scope exceeds your grasp, it's good to have folks
to help you. I
recently sent a 270 to Mike Easton and he performed a much
needed and
affordable adjustment to an otherwise unplayable
instrument.
His email is fatheadmi@xxxxxxxxxxxx
I first contacted Steve Malerbi, but he seems to be
backlogged--his email is
harpsurgeon@xxxxxxxxxxxx
Sadly, no more Bill Romel.
Wally Peterman does some stuff--do you have to know him
personally?
Gary
