I think it would great for jazz. I had one once. Absolutely hated it. But don't let that steer from it. It would be a perfect little number for jazz. 
What I didn't like about it was it was equal temperment, sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard to my chord-loving ears. If you play single notes, it's perfect. As far as blues goes, yes, it would be good for that. 
What will take some time to learn is which notesÂNOT to play and in the end, it would probably be easier to just learn a chromatic. But you can get some really cool, weird stuff on an XB 40.
