Re: [Harp-L] Fw: Harp keys cheat sheet AND CRAFT PROJECT

To add to a great tool..........................It was suggested a few years ago to also make a slightly larger circle, than your circle of fifths....(If you are able, make both out of card stock)

Punch a hole at the center of both circles........Take the larger circle and atatch it to the rear with a prong....(one of those things we made pinwheels out of in elemenatry school)

extend the lines out to the edge of the larger circle. number the voids (Between the lines) from 1 through 12 assending counterclockwise.

whatever key the band is in rotate the 1 to that key and your positions will be layed out right in front of you.

Called the "Circle of Fifths"
http://korsmo-tech.com/Circl e%20of%20Fifths%20wheel.gif

print it and keep a copy in your wallet.

Also print one real big and put it on your wall.

It's the essence of musical keys./ progressions.

If you want to know what key to play 4th position in using an F harp, look
at F and go 3 more positions to the right, = Key of D.

5th position in the key of Bb = ( go 4 more positions to the right = Key of
D.

12th position in the key of A . go 11 positions to the right = Key of D.

Learn it.

Breathe it.

Become it.

Do it.

zen!

Abner:

It is correct and the chart follows with the addition of 3rd and 4th
positions.

Do you notice a pattern? Look at the 1st column and count down 5 after A.
That is D and that is the starting key for 2nd position and then that
column
follows the same pattern from that point as 1st position (column 1).
Count
down 5 after D in the 2nd column and you get G, the start of 3rd position
with the same note pattern, etc. etc.

This pattern is circular in nature and repeats thru all 12 position and is
called the circle of 5th. I believe that Crazy Bob is on this list. He
has
created a great tool you can download and carry with you to determine the
music key and harp key for any position. Maybe Bob or someone else can
post
the link. You can google Circle of 5ths and get more information (probably
far much more than you want know).
