Re: [Harp-L] windsavers

I have volunteered and have been accepted to present the SPAH09 seminar on valves. This is a very specialized subject so I don't expect a large attendance.

For beginners, I'll explain the use and necessity of valves in chromatics.

I have made a little machine having one reed slot whose chamber is connected to a slant-tube water manometer. With this I can measure and show the pressure behind a wet valve up until the time that it pops open. It will allow the stick/pop performance of various materials, textures and treatments (such as wax) to be measured and compared.

Anyone touting a new material for valves is encouraged to bring it for testing and discussion.. Please bring enough to give away a few samples.

I will also show a couple of little machines for quick valve cutting.

I'll discuss factory, micropore, teflon, and ultrasuede valves.

Then the meeting will be open for questions and comments until they run us out of the room.

I will have some sample valves of various materials to give away.

I aspire to make the seminar interesting, fun, and informative for chromatic players. You will have to check your firearms at the door.

"compressed ultrasuede"

Yeah Gary. You can roll it with spray starch. I (myself) am currently using a rubber coated fabric and a plastic coated fabric used to patch rigid inflatable boats. It's called 'Hypalon'.
I don't know who is giving that seminar but THAT would be interesting.

smo-joe

There will be a seminar at SPAH09 devoted entirely to chromatic valves /
windsavers. That would be a good place to learn and ask questions.

So, Vern--
Are you marketing the new valves yet?
