[Harp-L] I've been asked to sit in.

Little Abner, at first I thought you were talking about me (abner). I had to re read the first paragraph several times..

I go to a bar on Wednesday open mike night, and I'm always asked to play. I've stated before I'm a newbie and have never been in front of strangers.
well this past Wednesday South Florida had 3 days of hard rain not many people were at the bar. A buddy of mine was playing the guitar and I went on stage. No I was not drunk, I did not drink. ok I had coffee you got me.
I have jammed with my buddy before at my house, he lets me lead since I don't know anything abut music. so its more of an improve jam.
So I'm cool and sweating my ass off, the stage light is right on me and it was hot. I'm looking at my wife as I'm playing and then more and more people start showing up.
So, now how the hell do I get off. My buddy starts playing "sand man" and I hit everything. People were applauding.
They like me, Two tourist were at the bar (one was German, the other was Austrian) , my wife heard two words "harmonica, and good".
My buddies daughter (who was on leave from the army) came up and sang two songs with us and then the lead singer from the band sang and after her I was able to run.
Later that evening the lead singer asked me to come back on stage. I declined.
My buddy was here (my house)this past Sunday and we played for hours, I have a DVD on blues guitar tutorials so now he is learning how to play the blues...
I also started recording my playing. so far I'm not happy with it. the tones are good its just repeats it self.
On Sunday my wife and son told me I started off crappy but ended well. What can I say they love me.

Guys a friend of mine has started a Jazz quartet,i know less than little
Abner about Jazz but he has asked if i would like to play a few numbers with
  them.
They are not a 'free form' group in that most of their material is
recognisable to most people, i.e. it has a melody ;-)
As a blues player the song that first leaps out of their reper toire as 'do
  able' is sweet Georgia brown'
I figure if i nail this they might be impressed enuff to ask me to
  do another one..
Before i try and work it out myself i thought i would ask a kind person(is
there any other sort on the Harp L) to suggest how to approach it?
I can only confidently play in second.(I know i know).
Geez these guys(even the drummer!) can read charts.
Ah well they must like my sound and i'm cheap..2 pints will do it.
Sweet Georgia brown what do you think?
